Progress Report – December 2015

December 2015 worked out well for me. I had a lot going on although it was not for Star Trek fan fiction.

December 2015 Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | December 2015December 2105 was a fairly quiet month as I was loaded up with schoolwork and it was burning me out something fierce.

On Wattpad, I finished posting Fortune. I posted Day of the Dead. Because longer stories with short vignettes work better there, I created Later Days. This included The Truth About Doug (from Eight) and To Wish, To Want, To Desire.

On the G & T Show forums, I continued to post Reversal.

And on Fanfiction.net, I continued posting A Long, Long Time Ago.

On Fictionpad, Clockworks was imported, so the following stories ended up on that site: A Lesson; Briefing; Candy; Desperation; Marvels; Pat the Bunny; Preparations; Recruitment; The Honky Tonk Angel; and Where O Where.

Milestones

WIP Corner

In December 2015, I continued to work on The Enigman Cave. I ended up with over 118,000 words and the story was sent to three beta readers before the holidays  began.

Prep Work

My main task was to work on the Enigmans and get that book in shape for beta readers. This included eliminating a lot of the extra words which I had added at the beginning of NaNoWriMo in order to make the word count requirement. I also attempted to tighten up the prose.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Final papers! It seemed as if everyone wanted me to write one. I have also been working for a second blog, so that takes up some writing time. Also, I spent a lot more time in front of a screen than usual, and it took a toll on my creativity and sometimes on my patience. I was very glad to finish the semester so I could relax a bit. The end is in sight at Quinnipiac, and that is very encouraging.

Progress Report – November 2015

Progress Report – November 2015

November 2015 worked out for me for continuing works. Hence there was little new stuff.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | November 2015

It was a month for continuations, and not really for starting anything new. So on Wattpad, I continued posting Fortune. In addition, on Fanfiction.net, I continued to post A Long, Long Time Ago. Finally, on the G & T Show forums, I continued to post Reversal.

November 2015 Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Main work was done on wholly original fiction as Star Trek fanfiction took a backseat to NaNoWriMo. And I do not mind that one bit, as NaNoWriMo is very important to me. As a result of the push I got from NaNoWriMo, I wrote a book called The Enigman Cave.

Prep Work

The month began with the end of the 24 Hours of G & T and I got a chance to talk writing! It was great fun and will be on YouTube soon.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

NaNoWriMo!

Which technically isn’t a productivity killer at all; it’s more that I was productive, but it sure as heck wasn’t for fanfiction. Instead, I worked on an original science fiction book, The Enigman Cave. I ‘won’ NaNoWriMo on the 20th by making it to 50,000 words and then I continued as the story was only maybe one-half to two-thirds completed by then. This cushion will come in very handy at editing time.

Furthermore, I had schoolwork as I was looking to get as much accomplished as possible in preparation for the end of the year. I am already set to take some time off from my internship. It’s enough already. I am pretty burned out and God I want school to be done with already. Feh!

Progress Report – July 2015

Progress Report – July 2015

July 2015 saw me adding onto more preexisting Star Trek fan fiction works. In addition, I wrote parts of the Barnstorming series. However, two years later (welcome to the future!), that series does not yet have an end point.

Posted Works

First of all, on Wattpad, I added to the In Between Days Collection by posting Tumult, Achieving Peace, Shell Shock, The Conspiracy, and Gilded Cage. I started to post Temper.Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | July 2015

Also, on Ad Astra, I finished posting Infinite Diversity.

Furthermore, on Fanfiction.net, I finished posting About Nine Months and then posted Education, The Decision, and Faith.

In addition, on Fictionpad, I added Education.

Finally, on the G & T Show, I finished Theorizing and then posted Gratitude; Gossip GossipOnions; Penicillin; Demotion; and started Conversations With Heroes.

Milestones

Please see the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I continued preparing The Enigman Cave for this years’ NaNoWriMo in November. In addition, I also kept perfecting the last two books in the Obolonk series, The Polymer Beat and The Badge of Humanity.  Hence this was to prepare and clear the decks for this year’s NaNoWriMo project. Also, I finished the first draft of the Barnstorming book, Time Out, and began the final book in that series, Overtime.

Prep Work

Also, I spent time on Wattpad getting future postings together in draft form. Hence that was meant to save me time later.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

So I had plenty to do at school. Plus I became a Wattpad Ambassador, and that took up a lot of my time. Because time is a finite thing, it had to come from somewhere. Hence it mainly came from Star Trek fan fiction writing time, I am so sorry to report.

Progress Report – May 2015

Progress Report – May 2015

May 2015 held a lot of promise.

Posted Works

However, I kept the postings down as I was busy with school.

First of all, on Wattpad, I continued posting Together. I entered a fanfiction contest with Red.

In addition, on the G & T Show Forums,

Progress Report – May 2015

Old North Bridge, Concord, Massachusetts. Where the ‘shot that was heard around the world’ was fired (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I followed the same format I had followed on Wattpad, and began to spin out Before Days with If You Can’t Stand the Heat, Cobbled Together. I began to add Concord.

Also, I updated The All-Stars on Ad Astra. I added an unexpected little In Between Days story, If I Could See. For the Twelve Trials of Triskelion, I posted a  Times of the HG Wells story about Richard Daniels‘s many conquests, The Stranger, for the Ficlet Flashdance. I dipped into Captain Sarine’s Restoration universe for a drabble, Appearances.

Furthermore, on Fanfiction.net, I finished posting Everybody Knows This is Nowhere. I started posting Theorizing.

Finally, I added Promise and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere to Fictionpad.Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | May 2015

Milestones

Please be sure to see the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

So as a part of clearing the decks and prepping for November, I continued editing and polishing the wholly original story, The Badge of Humanity. The Obolonks Murders went in for more beta reading, as did The Polymer Beat. In addition, I had the start of a story for November.

Prep Work

I worked some more on the Barnstorming series in order to work on resolving it, and came up with an idea for another series after that one. I also got some ideas for upcoming writing challenges.

Progress Report – March 2014

Progress Report – March 2014

March 2014 was rather productive.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | March 2014

First of all, I finished posting Hold Your Dominion on Wattpad, and added Wider than the Sargasso Sea and Smash Your Dominion. I also added Coffee, It’s a Small Universe After All and Siberians.

In addition, I finished posting Flight of the Bluebird on Fanfiction.net. So as a direct result of that, I also imported Flight of the Bluebird into Fictionpad. I posted Legends on Fanfiction.net and also imported Legends into Fictionpad.

Also, I went on posting Intolerance on the G & T Show forums.

Furthermore, in response to a prompt about “Before the dying of the light”, I posted A Perfect Note on Ad Astra. I then added that same story to Fanfiction.net and Fictionpad. And finally, in response to a Weekly Free Write about being trapped, I added Gilded Cage.

Milestones

Progress Report – March 2014

Revved Up has been featured on Wattpad since the 12th!!! And it has over 120 reviews and is racking up about 750 reads/day.

He Stays  a Stranger made it to 10,000 reads on Ad Astra alone!

So please see the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked on The Obolonk Murders, a wholly original story.

Prep Work

Also, I spent time on BookType, getting together some content for TU Publishing. In addition, I added a little to the Star Trek Expanded Universes wiki. Finally, I split up Entanglements into chapters for eventual posting on Fanfiction.net.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School!

The week of March 10 – 16 was spring break at Quinnipiac, but otherwise I was working. Spring break was more than welcome.  I did a lot of the readings and was busy with a blog for class.

I also spent a lot of time updating my website and older posts on this blog, and attempting to improve their SEO.

Progress Report – February 2014

February 2014? Oh. My. Gawd!

STOP THE PRESSES!!!!!

Progress Report – February 2014

On February 4th, I learned that Untrustworthy had won Riverdale Avenue Books‘ first-ever NaNoWriMo competition! So they sent over a contract, and I signed it! I AM GOING TO BE PUBLISHED!!!

Stop the Presses, Part II

Revved Up is going to be featured on Wattpad, starting the second week in March!!

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | February 2014

First of all, on Wattpad, I finished posting The Continuing Adventures of Porthos – The Future Cat. Also, in response to a request for valentine poetry, I put together the three sonnets from Intolerance and called it The Golden Lady and the Knave. Plus I combined Complications and The Best Things Come in Pairs into a short story for Valentines’ Day and called it Loving the Alien.

Extras

Furthermore, I posted the two TOS Mirror Universe stories, That’s Not My Name and It Had to be You, as one work, called The New Captain’s Woman. Because these smaller groupings of stories seem to get the best reception, I added the four slash-type stories, under the general name, Future Matches. So those stories are Detached Curiosity & Idle Speculation, The Way to a Man’s Heart, There’s Something About Hoshi, and There’s Something Else About Hoshi. And in order to add to the read counts for the Gina Nolan universe, I started spinning out Hold Your Dominion, which will also include Good-Bye.

To round out Clockworks: Times of the HG Wells, I added Calendar Turning Event #3111, Mirror Masquerade, Paradox, kes7’s Survey Says …, Stocking Stuffers 2013 (Auld Lang Syne only), and Meeting of the Minds. Hence this finishes up context for the time being for that series. For the monthly challenge, which is about the origins of holidays, I posted Legends.

In addition, for Valentine’s Day, I added Finnan Haddie to Archer’s Angels.

On Fanfiction.net, I continued posting Flight of the Bluebird.

On the G & T Show forums, I finished posting The Continuing Adventures of Porthos – The Future Cat. I also made a promise to post the Emergence series next as there was interest in it. I decided to begin with Intolerance, as that is essentially a prequel. This is the M-rated version of that story.

Milestones

He Stays a Stranger made it to 10,000 combined reads! On TrekBBS alone, Reversal went over 5,000 reads! See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked on the wholly original story, The Obolonk Murders. I started a wholly original short story, Truth in Advertising.

Prep Work

I worked on the website and brought the lists of wholly original fiction and Mirror Universe stories here to the blog. I shared my big news with pretty much everyone, too.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

In addition, I continued at school at Quinnipiac University and that naturally took up a great deal of my time.

I was also genuinely bowled over by all the attention I got from getting a publishing contract. So I’ve been livin’ the dream.

And I’m still shoveling snow.

Progress Report – December 2013

Progress Report – December 2013

December 2013 was chilly.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | December 2013

The month started off with creating and posting a completely unexpected holiday story about Carmen and Levi, called Calendar Turning Event #3111. To celebrate the holidays, I added Stocking Stuffers 2013 and Advice From My Universes to Yours.

Also, in response to a prompt about family, I added the Levi-Otra-centric Meeting of the Minds, where Marci Cavendish is first seen in any context other than a dream. In response to the favorite things challenge, I posted The Continuing Adventures of Porthos – The Future Cat.

Progress Report – December 2013

In addition, on Fanfiction.net, I finished spinning out Take Back the Night. And in order to fill in some stories I had written but not posted there before, I added Gossip, gossip and In Memory of Kelsey Haber. I then returned to the Daranaean Emergence series and added Temptation, Some Assembly Required, and Debate, and began to spin out The Continuing Adventures of Porthos – The Future Cat.

Also, I imported Gossip, gossip, Take Back the Night, In Memory of Kelsey Haber, Temptation, Some Assembly Required and Debate into Fictionpad.

I added There’s Something About Hoshi and There’s Something Else About Hoshi to my slash topic on The G and T Show. The reception was so good there that I began adding Crackerjack. I added The Continuing Adventures of Porthos – The Future Cat to TrekBBS.

Finally, on Wattpad, I finished posting the wholly original comedy, Revved Up. I also added Freak School. I added Alien Encounter, and began spinning out Crackerjack.

Milestones

For individual read counts, the following stories have 20,000 or more on one URL –

So for individual read counts, the following stories have 10,000 or more on one URL –

All of these were accomplished on Ad Astra.

The following stories have between 5,000 and 9,999 reads on one URL –

Combined Read Counts

Apart from the others at over 5,000 reads for just one URL, the following combine to 5,000 – 9,999 reads when all postings’ URLs are taken into consideration –

WIP Corner

I finished the first draft of Play and began the next book in the Barnstorming series, Time Out. I also worked on an original story, The Obolonk Murders.

Prep Work

So I sent out my first-ever query letter! This was for Untrustworthy, my NaNoWriMo winner, and the letter was sent to Riverdale Avenue Books. It was for a competition. That site publishes eBooks, and only nine are listed in their HSF imprint (horror, science fiction and fantasy). So we’ll see; I should hear by the first of February. I’m not expecting the moon.

I also spent time looking for more possible places to submit Untrustworthy, and learning about how to improve my query letter and otherwise increase my chances for publication.

I split up the timeline pages a bit more as they had gotten rather huge and unwieldy.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

The holidays loomed large, at the same time that I was both looking for work and trying to learn new and better ways to try to become a published author.

Progress Report – March 2013

March 2013 Posted Works

March 2013 had a lot of diverse work in it.

In response to both the Ad Astra paths not taken challenge and the Trek BBS independence challenge, I posted Bread, Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | March 2013 a story about the prime universe and mirror universe Leah Benson. Bread covers a lot of details and even includes a shout-out to the Daranaeans.

In reaction to the death of a friend, I posted On the Radio. I began to spin out The Three of Us.

Also, I added On the Radio and Bread to In Between Days context. I added The Play at the Plate and Bread  to Hall of Mirrors context.

On Fanfiction.net, I posted Movie Night, Coveted Commodity and began to spin out Fortune.

Milestones

Temper hit 10,000 overall reads on March 18th. The next story that will get there is most likely going to be Fortune.

WIP Corner

I continued working on The All-Stars. I also spent time on the Anthology.

Prep Work

I continued refining the timeline. I prepared works for the Anthology.

English: Six Braided Jewish Challah with sesame. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I also decided to overhaul my website, as I know that the jespah section is mainly a bunch of links, and that is harming my SEO efforts. Not to mention, it’s pretty dull. Hence I have begun the process of changing how links are presented, both there and on this blog. This will change not only the website side of things, it will also involve updating many of my preexisting posts. It will likely take months before I really make any significant headway.

This is probably, in some ways, avoidance behavior – I won’t have much time to work on the Barnstorming series for a while. But I think I am all right with that. I further feel that delaying that series will give me an opportunity to give it more details and interest. Plus I have been going nonstop for almost two and a half years now. I am not stopping, plus I’ll probably continue answering challenges. But things are changing a bit. It’s all good.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

This month got busy as it’s 5K racing season again. I am also looking for more work, and that has heated up again recently. Plus, as I’ve already mentioned, I am changing things up on the website end of things.

Progress Report – February 2013

February 2013 Posted Works

February 2013 kept me going.

It was a busy month Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | February 2013 (as they always seem to be these days).

I started off adding several stories to the Times of the HG Wells context. These were: A Lesson, Candy, Souvenirs, Spring Thaw, Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain and The Point is Probably Moot.

Voice of the Common Man was added to the In Between Days context.

I continued the E2 Interphases stories with Entanglements. In response to a prompt about second chances, I tapped a very different cast of characters and entered the Voyager universe with Siberians.

On Archer’s Angels, for Valentine’s’ Day, I added A Kind of Blue.

Also, on Fanfiction.net, I added The ConspiracyVoice of the Common Man, and Temper.

In order to respond to both the Ad Astra paths not taken challenge and the Trek BBS independence challenge, I began writing a prime universe/mirror universe story about Leah Benson, called Bread. Also, in response to the death of a friend, I began writing On the Radio, which is a post-Fortune story.

Milestones

Temper continues its climb toward 9,000 overall reads, while Reversal is closing in on 20,000. In Between Days exceeded 100,000 overall reads on the 18th.

WIP Corner

I continued working on the second Adult Trek Anthology as I was able to. I made some progress on The All Stars and continued to edit the earlier E2 works. This was to better polish the prose. On the Radio is a bit of an emotional story for me. Hence it may take a while before I finish.

Prep Work

I gathered images for the Anthology’s cover, and worked on getting Together ready for publishing by Trek United on its Issuu page. I also spent time on the Anthology and prepared more works for it. TU Publishing now has a Facebook page, and I am working on content for it. I added a Timeline page in order to provide better context. Right now, I’m only adding works that have reviews on the blog.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Life has gotten incredibly busy, as work has added more tasks. I enjoy these tasks, but they do take up time. However, it’s blogging that requires a great deal of research and I cannot rush it.
