Progress Report – February 2017

February 2017 ended up as yet another quiet month for Star Trek fanfiction writing.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill
First of all, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing. Because at that site, the forums were removed due to the influx of spammers. And at this moment in time, the replacement blogs have not yet been created or started. Hence, still nada!

However, at this time, I have no replacement. Therefore, I posted very few stories and, as a result, the read counts did not advance too much.

And on Fanfiction.net, I continued to post The Point is Probably Moot.

Finally, on Wattpad, I posted You Mixed-Up Siciliano. And on the @WattNaNo side of things, I added to How to NaNoWriMo.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Because I finished and won NaNoWriMo in 2016, I continued to edit The Real Hub of the Universe. Furthermore, this wholly original science fiction work takes place in Victorian Boston. As a result, I have been working on outlining a sequel and I will also look to line up a group of beta readers.

I also worked on editing The Enigman Cave to get it ready for querying.

Prep Work

I next created a Wattpad draft for the following fanfiction piece from The Times of the HG Wells. And that turned out to be Spring Thaw.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

As always, sometimes the muse just takes a vacation. And that can be extremely frustrating! I ended up working for three separate companies and that, of course, made me rather busy indeed. Furthermore, I wanted to take something of a break. The Real Hub needs editing and beta reading, and that means I need to take any changes into consideration before I can really get started on the sequel. In addition, I got together as much of The Enigman Cave as possible and that included working on a query letter and teaser (blurb) pitch.

Progress Report – October 2016

Progress Report – October 2016

As has been happening for several months (has it been a year already? More? I honestly can’t recall), I did not write too much in the way of Star Trek fan fiction. Rather, I spent October 2016 posting older stories and preparing for this year’s NaNoWriMo.

Posted Works

First of all, on Wattpad, I continued adding to Clockworks, and posted Marvels, Pat the Bunny, Where O Where, Candy, and A Lesson. And then I started to post A Long, Long Time Ago.

Furthermore, on Fanfiction.net, I continued to post Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain.

In addition, on the G & T Show forums, I posted Shell Shock. And then I added The Conspiracy and Gilded Cage to In Between Days.

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts. Reversal made it to over 100,000 reads, and Together hit over 50,000!

WIP Corner

Currently, the only real WIP is The Enigman Cave. I sent it to Roberta for editing early this month and we agreed she would return it around the holidays or so.

Prep Work

I worked on The Real Hub of the Universe! It was a matter of creating greater connections between characters. Furthermore, I tried to eliminate coincidences and pull the plot into more believable directions. And I was able to add it to the NaNoWriMo site very early, so it was good to be done with that. As a result, I feel ready to tackle it this year. More or less.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Part of it was podcasting, as we finally launched Semantic Shenanigans. In addition, I was undergoing physical rehabilitation for both my knee and my back and hip. Not fun! However, all of this was very necessary.

Progress Report – September 2016

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | QuillAs has been the case for a while, I did not post much new Star Trek fan fiction. I did not have the time and I was, frankly, not that inspired to do so. Instead, I have been working on my own personal brand. Plus I have been trying to make some money.

At Wattpad, I updated Clockworks and added Preparations and The Stranger.

On the G & T Show forums, I finished posting Together. I then added Broken Seal, Movie Night, Equilibrium, Ceremonial, Tumult, and Achieving Peace.

On Fanfiction.net, I finished posting Spring Thaw. I then started to post Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Right now, I am still working on getting The Enigman Cave beta read.

Prep Work

I spent a lot of time getting The Real Hub of the Universe ready for this November.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Yet again, I am horribly overextended. And it is my own damned fault.

Progress Report – July 2016

Progress Report – July 2016

July 2016 proved to be a quiet summer month as school work continued to dominate my time. Furthermore, I helped with G & T Show podcast get ready for STLV (Star Trek Las Vegas) as it is the fiftieth anniversary of The Original Series. I will not be attending STLV, but I will be blogging for us.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | QuillThis month, I concentrated on adding to older series.

I finished posting Faith and added Remembrance and November 13th and started posting Seven Women on Wattpad. This was all within the Later Days collection.

I continued adding to Spring Thaw on Fanfiction.net.

On the G & T Show forums, I continued adding to Together.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

As before, I am ironing out the details for The Real Hub of the Universe. This involves researching nineteenth century Boston. It has proven to just be great fun.

Prep Work

I continued working with beta readers on The Enigman Cave. The story unquestionably needs work, but I simply do not have the time to do it right now.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Aside from the podcast, schoolwork also kept me busy. The semester ends on August the twelfth! Furthermore, I participated in The Writer Games again. That proved to be a lot of fun last year and it was a spur to creativity. Plus the people are terrific.

I am working on getting together the website for Semantic Shenanigans. There are a lot of possible stories we can cover. This is, without a doubt, an underserved niche. Another idea is what to do with Lonely Writer once the semester is over. I have paid for the domain for a few months after August. Plus it appears there is at least some interest. I know I can do well for the independent writing community, but I would like to find a way to monetize my efforts, or at least get some more book reviews and/or sales.

Progress Report – June 2016

Progress Report – June 2016

June 2016 is in the books!

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | QuillAs has been my pattern recently, June 2016 proved to be a month of very little new writing. Instead, I concentrated on getting older works spread and promoted as school and work at the wedding blog, plus podcasting, took up a lot more of my time and for very good reasons. My summer Capstone project keeps me hopping but the work is of interest and it is bringing in actual paying work. Plus I got a raise at the wedding blog!

Furthermore, at the G & T Show, we are looking to spin off my law and fandom show, Semantic Shenanigans.

On Fanfiction.net, I finished posting You Mixed-Up Siciliano. I then started to post Spring Thaw.

On the G & T Show forums, I kept on posting Together.

On Wattpad, I further expanded Later Days, adding The Rite, Finnan Haddie, Bread, Escape, The Decision, The Medal, A Hazy Shade, Completely Hers and the beginning of Faith.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I continue to work with beta readers on The Enigman Cave. Beta reading takes a while and the story is a long one. I can see it will need some overhauling but I am simply far too busy to do that right now. It will be tackled in late August or in September in anticipation of sending it out for professional editing and then querying later in the year.

Prep Work

I continued to research this year’s planned NaNoWriMo novel, The Real Hub of the Universe. I have also been putting together the outline, which I can see while sprawl over maybe three books.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School, work, and podcasting – aren’t they enough?

Progress Report – May 2016

Progress Report – May 2016

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | QuillMay 2016 was  yet another sparse month as I graduated from Quinnipiac University but was not quite done with class work. With a Capstone project due, and the summer to do it in, my focus understandably shifted, and it was far, far away from new fan fiction writing. Instead, I posted older works, as I have been doing for some time now.

On the G & T Show forums, I began to post Together.

On Fanfiction.net, I continued posting You Mixed-Up Siciliano.

On Wattpad, I finished posting Flight of the Bluebird and then added  Equinox, Confidence, and Education as parts of Later Days.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

As my Capstone project ate up my life, it was not easy to write much of anything outside of that. Instead, I concentrated on preparing for NaNoWriMo and performing some research.

Prep Work

As noted, I worked on some NaNoWriMo research mainly. I did spend some time getting drafts into Wattpad in order to make my life easier for posting. I just check everything one last time, and out it goes. Very convenient and easy!

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School! Graduation! Podcasting! I was pushed, hard, in directions that were rather far away from writing either wholly original work or Star Trek fan fiction.  We also went on a short vacation to Cape Cod just before my graduation, and we attended a Red Sox game later in the month.

I cannot honestly see June getting any better. I think it is going to be like this until I hand in my Capstone project, which is due on August the twelfth of this year.

In the meantime, I just need to keep my head above water. It is not easy!

Progress Report – April 2016

Progress Report – April 2016

Posted Works

April 2016 ended up being another fairly quiet month as I was busy with wrapping up schoolwork in preparation for my capstone project, working on preparing the first stages of the capstone, blogging and podcasting with the G & T Show, doing family things, working at the wedding blog, and reporting (in my capacity as both a Star Trek fan and a retired attorney) on the legalistic debacle going on. Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill This left little time for creating new works.

On Wattpad, I posted a big chunk of Flight of the Bluebird. My story, If I Had to Do Over Again (it appears within The Three of Us) appeared in a Wattpad ‘magazine’, Tevan Krus, The Fanfic Spectacular!

On the G & T Show forums, I added to In Between Days by posting A Kind of Blue, Gainful, The Tribe, Brown, Friday Visit, Barely Tolerable, Pacing, The Gift, and Voice of the Common Man. Interest has really picked up there recently, and I am grateful! 🙂

On Fanfiction.net, I finished posting Ohio and started in on You Mixed-Up Siciliano.

In response to a prompt about having to start over, I posted a short story about Kevin O’Connor‘s second wedding, I Do Again.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I spent some time on this year’s NaNoWriMo novel, The Real Hub of the Universe. The characters feel real and a lot of the scenes are truly vivid.

But then there’s the matter of the plot holes you could drive a truck through. Or, in that story line’s case, a horse and buggy. I will have to work on it later.

Prep Work

For the second annual Alzheimer’s charity anthology (The Longest Night Watch), I wrote a wholly original short story, Cynthia.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

You name it. School. Work. Podcasting. Family. About the only thing that didn’t stop me from writing was a swarm of locusts. So I guess I’ll be expecting one in May.

Life is busy and it is not about to let up any time soon. Ah, well.

Progress Report – March 2016

Progress Report – March 2016

So March 2016 proved to be another quiet month as school, work, and the G & T Show podcast took up a lot of my time. As a result, there was no new fan fiction created during this calendar month. However, a lot of my older works were distributed to wider and wider audiences. I am grateful for the recognition I have been getting for some of these pieces.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | March 2016On Wattpad, I continued to add to Later Days, and therefore I posted Some Assembly Required; The Facts; Linfep Linfep Linfep; Consider the Lilies of the Field; In Memory of Kelsey Haber; If I Could See; Colleagues; The Pivot Point; About Nine Months; Debateand Half.

In addition, on Fanfiction.net, I continued to post Ohio.

On the G & T Show forums, I finished posting Reversal. I then started  with a new compilation, In Between Days, and added An Announcement, Dear Captain, Apple, and Local Flavor.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked even more closely with beta readers on The Enigman Cave, getting it more polished and ready for querying. The story is almost there and I hope it does well.

Prep Work

So I continued to work on the upcoming 2016 NaNoWriMo wholly original story, The Real Hub of the Universe, getting to know my main characters better and fleshing out the secondary characters a lot more. As a result, the project is looking really good and I am happy to be getting ready to write it.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Work, school, the podcast, family stuff, you name it! I was busy or tired for much of the time, and often both. Hence, there was little new stuff to add.

Progress Report – February 2016

Progress Report – February 2016

February 2016 was busy! However, it was a good kind of busy.

February 2016 Posted Works

February 2016 proved to be another busy month. Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | February 2016As I continued with schoolwork, I was able to add to more works online but really did not write any new Star Trek fanfiction as I just did not have the time to do so. Helpfully (and through no design of my own), everything I posted was a continuation of a work in progress.

On Wattpad, I finished posting Take Back the Night. I also posted Temptation.

On Fanfiction.net, I continued to post Ohio.  On the G & T Show forums, I kept on posting Reversal.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked with beta readers on The Enigman Cave. I am still aiming for a round of querying right around the time I graduate from Quinnipiac University, in late August/early September. So far, it is going rather well, and I am very pleased with the feedback I am getting. My only issue is version control, and so I will most likely use Google Docs the next time I work with so many beta readers. Otherwise, it is far too confusing for me and I can miss subtleties if I am not careful.

Prep Work

I continued working and daydreaming and trying to bring some shape, focus, and above all plot to what is being tentatively called The Real Hub of the Universe. It has the potential to turn into a series and not just be for this year’s NaNoWriMo exercise, so I am eager to work on world building.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School, more than anything else. I am busy, and I am focused. Plus I need to get ready for my capstone project over the summer. I am having fun but it is also time-consuming work.
