Progress Report – Third Quarter 2018

Third quarter 2018 was more transitioning from Star Trek fan fiction over to the wholly original stuff.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | Third Quarter 2018
First of all, on Wattpad, for the third quarter 2018, I posted The All-Stars and then I posted Play. So it was a lot of Barnstorming posting to try to finally get that series out there.

And on Fanfiction.net, I also finished The All-Stars and then posted Play and started Time Out.

Finally, on the G & T Show forums, I posted absolutely nothing and that is just going to continue. I am sure that that ship has sailed. Those forums don’t even exist any more.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I kept working on Overtime to try and finish it before the end of the year and, particularly, before the start of NaNoWriMo.

Prep Work

I continued to write wholly original works and prepare for this year’s NaNoWriMo. This also included submitting various short stories to small literary magazines, in the hopes of getting some more publishing credits to my name.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

It was work, of course! Life got frightfully busy at the end of the previous quarter and it has not yet let up. If it ever will, and now I am really doubting that. I am a middle manager now, with two direct reports! Yeah, life isn’t going to slow down any time soon, if ever. Save me!

In fact, this level of busyness was starting to push me to giving up certain volunteer work I have done, some of it for years. But I have to protect my own physical health, so adding yet more and more work and filled hours to my day was not doing me any favors.

Progress Report – Second Quarter 2018

The Second Quarter 2018 brought more changes. Because I am not posting much new works, its main purpose was to post the older pieces.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | Second Quarter 2018
First of all, on Wattpad, I posted Inside Information (more information below) as a part of Later Days. I then swung into the Eriecho series, with Release, Beats, Double Helix, The Mundane World, Recessive, A Gathering, and Across the Universe. I then posted The Puzzle and Theorizing, both as standalone stories. My next foray was going to be into the E2 timeline, with Reflections Down a Corridor. However instead I went with the Barnstorming series, starting with The All-Stars of course.

And on Fanfiction.net, I posted the Hold Your Dominion series in its entirety. That consists of Hold Your Dominion, Smash Your Dominion, Good-Bye, and Wider than the Sargasso Sea. And then I moved onto Mixing It Up, posting Freak School, Report Card, D’Storlin, The Reptile Speaks, Insecurity, Losin’ It, Truth, and Transported. I added Alien Encounter, Milk, and The Black Widow to this collection as they don’t really fit in anywhere else. And I then got caught up by posting Inside Information. I posted Coffee and Siberians as a separate Voyager Collection. Then I started the Barnstorming series, with The All-Stars, and then moving along to Play. I also posted, as a standalone, Inside Information.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

There really isn’t anything in progress. Inside Information was completely unexpected. However, because I’ve started Barnstorming, I need to finish Overtime. So I did some work on that and moved it along. I can see how I’ll finally end it.

Prep Work

On the WattNaNo profile, I added to WattNaNo’s Top Picks for 2018.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Work got worse. Basically, while I am grateful to have a job, I am also alternating between boredom and stressed panic. Some of that boredom is my own fault; I take responsibility for it. I would just like a little more balance. But I’m sure we all would.

Progress Report – First Quarter 2018

Progress Report – First Quarter 2018

The first quarter 2018 was a time to kick start my creativity into high gear. I spent the time writing, brainstorming, gathering inspiration, and editing. I was very productive. And it helped for trying to create the habit of doing something related to writing every single day.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | First Quarter 2018
First of all, on Wattpad, I continued to post He Stays a Stranger. I then swung into the Deep Future collection. This meant that I posted It’s Not Really a Reset if You Remember ItThe Sweetest UniverseCalendar Turning Event #3111, Happy Stuff 3111, Mirror Masquerade, Meeting of the Minds, I Do Again, I Do Again (and Again), and Timeless.

I shifted back and posted Gratitude and Dear Captain. I also posted Theorizing and The Puzzle as standalone works.

And on Fanfiction.net, I posted in the Deep Future collection and added Meeting of the Minds, Timeless, I Do Again, and I Do Again (and Again).  Then I shifted, as the ENT stories are pretty much played out there, and posted Crackerjack. I also posted, as a Barnstorming collection although the real Barnstorming stories won’t be there for a few months, Imprecision, Overture, You Make Me Want to Scream,, Loss, and It’s a Small Universe After All. In addition, I swung into two TOS-era Hall of Mirrors stories, That’s Not My Name and It Had to Be You.

My next stop on Fanfiction.net was a hop to Eriecho. I posted Release, Beats, Double Helix, Recessive, The Mundane World, A Gathering, and Across the Universe.

Finally, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing as there is still nothing there and there may never be again. Ah, well. I suppose that’s for the best.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Because I am not creating anymore Star Trek fan fiction, my works in progress are all wholly original works. I spent a lot of time writing short stories to stay sharp.

Prep Work

In addition, I worked on a number of smaller ideas and I may have come up with the plot for my 2018 NaNo novel! Hint: it will be set in the Obolonks universe but it will be a lot like the Times of the HG Wells series. I may rename that series; it may turn out to be more like Boston Meg Precinct or the like. Plus there’s also the third book in the Real Hub of the Universe trilogy. However, I am still working out the ending for that one.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

So it was work and the weather! While I work from home, frigid temperatures meant spending time running the car to keep the battery from wearing down. And snow of course meant shoveling.

Progress Report – December 2017

Progress Report – December 2017

December 2017, like pretty much the entirety of 2017, meant no need Star Trek fan fiction but a lot of other writing.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | December 2017
First of all, on Wattpad, I posted the remainder of Shake Your Body and then started He Stays a Stranger.

And on Fanfiction.net, I posted the rest of Eight and then went back to Deep Future to post The Sweetest UniverseCalendar Turning Event #3111, and Happy Stuff 3111. I also posted Mirror Masquerade as a separate story.

Finally, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing as none of that has settled down yet. I have no idea whether the show will come back or change or anything of the sort. Since there have not been any forums for quite some time, it seems silly to even consider it.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I continue to work on Mettle. I already won NaNoWriMo so it was time to continue and get some finesse in there. My main goals are to edit both it and The Real Heart of the Universe, and start to get the final story in the Hub series outlined if not off the ground in 2018 (possibly for NaNoWriMo). I still don’t quite have a name for that last one. It might be something like The Real Power of the Universe although I confess I would prefer a word starting with ‘H’ for the third word in the title. That word might turn out to be ‘honor’.

Prep Work

Next year, I will only be writing these progress posts at the end of every quarter. It strikes me as being far easier and more interesting to have more to report. Plus I have no idea if anyone even reads these any more.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Work and the holidays, mainly. The end of the last quarter of the year is always strange and a mixture of people goofing off plus people working like dogs to get everything done so that they can goof off.

Progress Report – November 2017

November 2017 creeped up on me and then suddenly I was exceptionally busy.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | November 2017
First of all, the G & T Show has ended and may or may not be revived, so I posted nothing there.

And on Fanfiction.net, I started Deep Future, which is the post-Stranger H. G. Wells stories. Since the Wells series is winding down there, I am starting to think about the E2 stories, as they are always fun to write and post. The stories in Deep Future start with It’s Not Really a Reset if you remember it and then The Sweetest Universe and then I put up Eight separately as it seemed to make more sense to do it that way.

And then finally, on Wattpad, I posted more of Shake Your Body.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

NaNoWriMo! I spent a lot of time working on Mettle although there was still a great deal of research that I had to do even as I was writing.

Prep Work

I put together the drafts for He Stays a Stranger on Wattpad.  I also set up the drafts for Mirror Masquerade on Fanfiction.net as that will come up next and, since I have a cover anyway, I may as well create a separate document for it.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

One thing that absolutely zapped my productivity was having to get a new computer. The old one died in October and I replaced it during then, but there were still, on occasion, things I simply could no longer find. This included a lot of images, sadly.

Another issue was work as I went to full time and I had to end things with three side clients. Plus I needed to get up to speed with the full-time gig. As would be expected, NaNoWriMo also ate up my life. Yet so did Semantic Shenanigans even as we made an effort to keep it low key.

Progress Report – October 2017

October 2017 was another slow month as I had a ton of preparatory work to do for NaNoWriMo, I wanted to do more original writing anyway, and work clobbered me. But by the way, Happy Halloween (AKA Declan‘s birthday)!

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | October 2017
First of all, on Wattpad, I posted Shake Your Body. And I also submitted Atlas for a contest.

And on Fanfiction.net, I posted the end of He Stays a Stranger and started Deep Future, which is the post-Stranger H. G. Wells stories. Since the Wells series is winding down there, I am starting to think about the E2 stories, as they are always fun to write and post. The stories in Deep Future start with It’s Not Really a Reset if you remember it and then The Sweetest Universe and then Eight.

Finally, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing as that has never hit a resolution so there is no place to post fan fiction there anymore. And I strongly suspect that that will be the case for the duration.

Milestones

So see the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

In addition, I worked on some short stories, kind of throwaway fiction tidbits for a possible future writer newsletter. Because if I do start an author newsletter, I am going to need a ton of content and a lot of ways to save time.

Prep Work

Plus I spent time getting the Mettle wiki together for this year’s NaNoWriMo. Furthermore, I spent time working with beta readers on The Real Hub of the Universe. I also edited The Real Heart of the Universe.  Furthermore, I continued to plan out the final work in the trilogy, which might be called The Real Honor of the Universe. It is weird that even I don’t know that!

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Oh God, it was work, work, and more work. So I barely got a breather.

Progress Report – September 2017

Progress Report – September 2017

September 2017 was another slow month for Star Trek fan fiction writing. And this was fully expected by me.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | September 2017
First of all, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing as the spam situation remains an issue there.

And on Fanfiction.net, I posted He Stays a Stranger.

Finally, on Wattpad, I posted The Point is Probably Moot.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Currently, I am not working on any fan fiction. However, I am working on plenty of wholly original writing. This includes the sequel to The Real Hub of the Universe, called The Real Heart of the Universe. I recently cut this book in a different place than originally expected. The idea is to finish up earlier as the middle book of a trilogy can sometimes drag, plus it also gives me fodder for the third book in the series, tentatively titled, The Real Power of the Universe.

Prep Work

It is getting to be that time of year again, so I will need to start preparing the outline and wiki for this year’s NaNoWriMo project, Mettle. This will involve a lot of research, more particularly in the scientific realm. I will need to understand a lot more about chemistry than, frankly, I ever have.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Oh my God – work! I started a new job in August and it did not let up at all. I am happy with the work but I am also one beat puppy. However, it feels as if it is paying off as I am hoping to get a full time job (yes, I am this beat and it is only part time). Plus I would like to drop my three remaining other clients.

Progress Report – August 2017

Progress Report – August 2017

August 2017 was another slow month. Heat, plus an incredibly busy month working as a freelancer, meant I did little but work and sweat! At least, that was how I saw it.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | August 2017
First of all, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing, as the spam situation is still up in the air.

And on Fanfiction.net, I posted He Stays a Stranger. Because the HG Wells series is winding down there, I will add the Deep Future stories and then, most likely, whatever I have from Barnstorming, even without a lot of editing. Otherwise, there is not much left to go there.

Finally, on Wattpad, I started to post The Point is Probably Moot.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Right now, the only WIP is for original work. I have works going into two (maybe it’s three?) separate anthologies. Because they are at various stages of completion, and some of them have been going on for quite a while, I am not 100% certain which is which! For a cancer anthology, I wrote something new, called The Playback.

The Hub of the Universe trilogy is going very slowly. Some of that is a fleeting and fickle muse. However, it is also a direct result of my being so damn busy. I often add a line or two in writing and then fall asleep. No lie!

Prep Work

I started to create draft on Wattpad for the next story in the series, Shake Your Body.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Work and work and more work! I was incredibly busy, which had its start back in I believe May. While it is good to have my freelance writing business taking off, it leaves very little room or time for anything else. I desperately seek balance. If anyone sees it, please return it. Thank you.

Progress Report – July 2017

Progress Report – July 2017

July 2017 turned out as yet another quiet month for Star Trek fanfiction writing.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | July 2017
First of all, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing. Because at that site, the forums were removed a few months ago, due to the influx of spammers. And at this moment in time, the replacement blogs have not yet been created or started. Hence, still nada!

However, at this time, I still have no replacement, and neither do they. Therefore, I posted very few stories and, as a result, the read counts did not advance too much.

And on Fanfiction.net, during July 2017, I I finished posting Shake Your Body. I then started He Stays a Stranger.

Finally, on Wattpad, I continued to post Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Because I finished and won NaNoWriMo in 2016, I sent The Real Hub of the Universe out for more beta reading. And that has proven more difficult as usual, as people are just plain busy. Furthermore, this wholly original science fiction work takes place in Victorian Boston. However, I would like to put off completing the second book until I get at least a modicum of feedback on the first one, and that has proven elusive.

Also, the editing for The Enigman Cave finished and the book was queried in mid-May. The publisher, Riverdale Avenue Books, asked for the entire manuscript for reading and reviewing. Hence I am cautiously optimistic; there are no guarantees of publication.

I also worked on the sequel to The Real Hub of the Universe, called The Real Heart of the Universe. I had already written over 50,000 words by the end of June. Hence I am perhaps one-half to maybe even two-thirds done.

Prep Work

I edited a Wattpad draft for the following fanfiction piece from The Times of the HG Wells, The Point is Probably Moot. However, I do not have to post it just yet.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

The month was hot and I was also incredibly busy with my freelance writing business. While it is good to have money and to work, I do kind of miss writing fiction.
