Origins

For the first E2 kick back in time, in The Three of Us, Ebrona needed to have a Science Officer. I also wanted to provide a lesbian character to pair up with a preexisting lesbian character.

Portrayal

Preece Ti is ‘played’ by actress Neve Campbell.

I like this lovely actress who has aged well on screen – a good choice, I feel, for a species that dies young.

Personality

Smart and kind, Preece Ti might be a little too clever by half. By the time the storyline advances to Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, it is revealed that a powerful source of fuel and the means to capture, refine, and utilize it, were kept from Captain Archer during the first kick back in time. While he rightfully blames Ebrona for the deception, at least some of the blame should be shouldered by Preece Ti.

Relationships

Diana Jones

Preece Ti’s only known relationship is with Diana Jones, who works in Science and eventually becomes a kind of nurse. In Infinite Diversity, it’s revealed that Preece Ti isn’t really Diana’s first choice (Diana feels she is settling), but Preece Ti is definitely attracted to Diana.

Mirror Universe

There are no impediments to Preece Ti existing in the Mirror Universe. As someone who is already deceptive in our universe, she would likely kick it up several notches, and become truly ruthless.

Upshot

Like a lot of the characters in the E2 timeline, Preece Ti was glossed over at the end there. I’m not sure when I can pick her up again, but I might at some point write that Ikaaran ship’s history before encountering the NX-01.

Review – Marbles

Review – Marbles

Marbles captures a quick moment. Blink and you’ll miss it. And the really funny thing about blog posts and SEO is that I need to write a blog post with just about three times as many words as the entire drabble. Hence if I am reiterating things, or seem to be repeating myself, that is exactly why. Sorry!

Background

This drabble comes from a prompt of the same name. As I have done many times before, I got inspiration from a play on words. Marbles led to, of course, the game pieces (toys? What would you call them? Playing pieces, maybe?) but also a marble cake. That got me to thinking about Lili. Furthermore, there is a third meaning – where you wonder if you are losing yours. Hence there is a rather subtle shout out to that as well. Because Charlotte Lilienne O’Day is presiding over barely structured chaos.

Plot

The Three of Us

Lili – very pregnant with Madeline Suzette – bakes a marble cake for Jay‘s birthday. That version of Joss tries to help by taking the name of the cake a little too literally.

Lili’s task, of course, is to keep the steelies out of the cake so that it can remain edible.

Upshot

I love giving Jay a family. As a result, this simple drabble is a bit amusing and heartwarming all at once. In addition, it fills in some blanks in his E2 life. The steely-eyed MACO commanding officer is not always all business. He has time and the inclination for love and a family as well.

Review – Everybody Knows This is Nowhere

Everybody Knows This is Nowhere works on a ton of levels. It is one of my best fan fiction works.

Background

I enjoyed writing the E2 Star Trek fan fiction stories a great deal, but I figured out after a while that it had to be two kick backs in time, rather than just one.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere

Otherwise, some of the scenes that I really wanted to put into the storyline would have been impossible or nearly impossible, without smashing canon to smithereens. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere rather neatly fixes all that.

Plot

After an initial kick back in time, the descendants of the Enterprise meets the current ship but it’s actually a second iteration of three. The second iteration is kicked back, too, and the bulk of the book is about the second iteration’s trials in the Delphic Expanse.

With certain things known, such as crew members’ sexualities and mate preferences, a lot of stress of the first three books essentially disappears. Therefore, almost everyone opts for an ‘instant replay’. But then some things go wrong, and not everyone can get what they want or who they want. In keeping with what I had established in Together, Lili ends up with José Torres.

The story has an M rating.

Upshot

So this book is far sadder but also more spiritual. Lili has to heal from some horrible hurts, and she doesn’t treat José too well at all in the beginning. Hence I suppose that having her behave somewhat rottenly at times really pulls her out of the Mary Sue category for good. The story, I feel, hits its marks well, and ultimately soars.
