Progress Report – December 2014

December 2014 was the holidays and more.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | December 2014

So I was rather busy. Hence it was a good month to add stories to context. And that was just as well.

Hence I added the following stories to In Between Days context: Linfep Linfep Linfep, About Nine Months, Faith and Who Shall Wear the Robe and Crown?

In addition, I added the following stories to The Times of the HG Wells context: Where O Where; and Dishing it Out.

Plus I added the following stories to Hall of Mirrors context: The Conspiracy, Gilded Cage, That’s Not My Name, It Had to Be You, Who Shall Wear the Robe and Crown?

To respond to a prompt about family and provide a little holiday story, I wrote Eight.

Finally, on the G & T Show website, I added Smash Your Dominion and Wider Than the Sargasso Sea. In the Gentle Slash topic, I added Red and A Perfect Note.

Milestones

So on the 12th of December, Untrustworthy was published!!! It’s been quite a wild ride.Untrustworthy

Ten stories have over 4,000 reads and over 50 reviews. So see the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked on The Badge of Humanity, the third and (presumably) final story in the wholly original Obolonk trilogy.

Prep Work

I worked on the jespah site, modernizing it. And I am really happy with it now. I also spent a lot of time on promoting Untrustworthy, requesting reviews, etc. I was even interviewed!

This Month’s Productivity Killers

I was published! If course this was a fantastic reason to not be writing fan fiction. I also worked on wholly original work so that kept me away from fan fiction writing.

Work! I started working as an SEO Specialist, too.

Progress Report – November 2014

Progress Report – November 2014

November 2014, I wrote for NaNoWriMo. Hence this was the second Obolonk book, The Polymer Beat.

Posted Works

So I continued posting Reversal on Wattpad and The Three of Us on Fanfiction.net.Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | November 2014 And on the G & T Show forums, I posted Across the Universe and began to post Hold Your Dominion. Also, on Ad Astra, I unexpectedly got an idea and added Gratitude, yet another take on Lili killing She Who Almost Didn’t Breed in Time.  Hence I added that story to the In Between Days Collection, along with Bomb(e), Dishing it Out, Flight of the Bluebird, Red, The Decision, and Theorizing.

Milestones

There are over 75 stories with (combined) at least 10 reviews and 1,000 reads. Of those, 17 have at least 20 reviews and 5,000 reads, and three of those have 50 or more combined reviews and 10,000 or more combined reads (Intolerance, Reversal,  and Take Back the Night). So of non-Star Trek stories, three of the six posted (I’m not including Untrustworthy or the Obolonk stories in this group) have over 100 reviews, and two of those have over 6,000 reads (Revved Up and The Social Media Guide).  Revved Up has over 30,000 reads, which makes it the second-most read individual story after Reversal on Ad Astra, and third-most read when you count combined reads (Together beats it with over 31,000 combined reads). So see the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I spent the month doing NaNoWriMo! I added over 50,000 words to The Polymer Beat, which is the second book in the Obolonk trilogy, and finished the story. This was also a productive effort for other reasons. Because I could put together many stray loose ends. These became a preliminary outline for the third book, The Badge of Humanity.

Prep Work

I spent some time splitting up Everybody Knows This is Nowhere in preparation for posting it on Fanfiction.net.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Apart from NaNo (technically not a productivity killer at all, except that it kills non-NaNo productivity), the main issues were schoolwork and looking for work.

Progress Report – October 2014

Progress Report – October 2014

October 2014 was full of work!

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | October 2014I started the month finishing The Canadian Caper, the Postmodern Jukebox adventure which is highly likely to be the first popfic ever written about the band. On Wattpad, I finished Before Days by adding First Born. I also finished The Social Media Guide, and began to post Reversal. I submitted eight works to the #Wattys2014 (The 2014 Watty Awards):

On Fanfiction.net, I continued spinning out The Three of Us. And on Ad Astra, I added a response to a prompt about discoveries. Because it was the first of the month, I called it Linfep Linfep Linfep. I also responded to a prompt about embarrassment by posting a MelissaLeonora story, Red. In addition, I posted Theorizing.

Finally, on the G & T Show forums, I finished spinning out Recessive and added Across the Universe.

Milestones

So with over 75 stories with at least 10 reviews and 1000 reads, I am beginning to see some real benefit from this kind of popularity. Hence at this point, the In Between Days collection is the third-most read story on Ad Astra. So it benefits from the Top Ten listing. Also, In Between Days is also the fourth-largest series on that site, and is the series with the most reviews. In addition, I am the third-most prolific author and may very well hit second place before the end of the calendar year. Finally, on Wattpad, I have more than 500 followers and am looking to get 1,000 as I believe I will get a lot more reads there once I do. That is because it seems to be an identifiable milestone that is respected there.

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I continued working on The Polymer Beat, the second book in the wholly original Obolonk series.

Prep Work

I entered the title of The Polymer Beat into the NaNoWriMo site. So I have entered as a so-called rebel, as I don’t have the time to start something new this year.

I created a Facebook Author page to promote my work.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

In preparation for beginning to take two courses at a time at Quinnipiac (to start in January of 2015 and go for all three semesters of that year), I continued working hard to get ahead on work such as keeping the Twitter stream filled, etc. I also worked on social media for the G & T Show.

Progress Report – September 2014

Progress Report – September 2014

September 2014 was a time of preparations.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | September 2014 I began the month in Star Trek fan fiction by adding to The Three of Us on Fanfiction.net and The Social Media Guide on Wattpad.

On the G & T Show forums, I finished the Daranaean Emergence series by posting Confidence. I then started posting the Eriecho series, with Release, Beats, The Mundane World, A Gathering, Double Helix and began to spin out Recessive.

On Wattpad, I continued adding the the Before Days series with Waiting;  If You Can’t Stand the Heat; More, More, More!, and Throwing Rocks at Looking Glass Houses

Progress Report – September 2014

Postmodern Jukebox

Because I’m a silly fan girl, I also got permission from Scott Bradlee and started to post the first-ever (far as anyone can tell) popfic about singing group Postmodern Jukebox! It’s called The Canadian Caper.

On Ad Astra, I responded to the “on my word” challenge with Promise, a TravisJulie story. In response to a prompt about school, I added a short Inta-centric story, Education.

I added Where No Gerbil Has Gone Before to the Delphic Expanse after some minor tweaking by the beta reader.

Milestones

On combined URLs, over 100 stories have 1,000 or more reads, and over 25 stories have 5,000 or more reads. 15 stories have over 9,750 reads on combined URLs. Twelve individual story URLs have over 10,000 reads. Over 30 have over 50 reviews on combined URLs.  Six have over 100 reads (half of those are on individual URLs). See the Stats page for individual read and review counts for Star Trek fan fiction and other works.

The Fanfic profile on Wattpad added three of my stories to their Star Trek reading list: The New Captain’s Woman (a combination of That’s Not My Name and It Had to be You), Biases, and Before Days (the prequels in the In Between Days series).

WIP Corner

I continued to work on The Polymer Beat, the second book in the wholly original Obolonk series.

Prep Work

Also, I added a little to the Star Trek fan fiction wiki but didn’t really have time to go in depth.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Class at Quinnipiac (I’m going to start taking 2 classes at a time next semester), and managing The G & T Show’s many social media accounts took up a great deal of my time. The show was also in the midst of a GoFundMe fundraiser.

Progress Report – September 2014

Plus we went on a short vacation to Cape Cod in the middle of the month.

Progress Report – August 2014

Progress Report – August 2014

August 2014 was productive.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | August 2014

I began the month in Star Trek fan fiction by continuing to add to, and then finishing, Entanglements on Fanfiction.net. And I then began to spin out The Three of Us there. Because these two stories were completed, Reflections Down a Corridor and Entanglements were imported into Fictionpad.

Also, I continued posting Flight of the Bluebird on the G and T Show Forums.

In addition, on Wattpad, I added Onions, Penicillin, Demotion, Letters from Home and Bribery to Before Days. To join a fanfiction drabble contest, I entered Worry.

I began the new round robin story on Ad Astra by posting Multiverse Mini. Like pretty much all of the round robins on the site, the storyline moves slowly and it might never be completed. I also contributed to The All-Stars. In response to a prompt about a worst nightmare, I wrote a story about Kevin Madden-Beckett, About Nine Months.

Milestones

My numbers continued to climb.  There are currently 18 works with 50 or more reviews. Four of those have 100 or more reviews. There are  over 100 stories with at least 1,000 reads. See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I continued contributing to the wholly original story, The Polymer Beat, which is the first sequel to The Obolonk Murders. I worked on Time Out, which is the third story in the Barnstorming series.

Prep Work

I spent some time requesting a photomanipulation for my Klingons of Long Island character, Lukara of Hewlett, from the STPMA. That is all just a bit of silliness for the G and T Show.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

I began working as the Social Media Director of the G and T Show. My final project for Quinnipiac University was due during the first week of the month. I then began another class on the 25th, Theories of Communication.

Progress Report – July 2014

Progress Report – July 2014

July 2014 was hot!

Posted Works

The month began with a rather hot week. It could be tough to concentrate on Star Trek fanfiction at times.

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | July 2014

First of all, I continuing posting Entanglements on Fanfiction.net and Flight of the Bluebird on the G and T Show Forums.

In addition, on Wattpad, I continued posting The Social Media Guide and My Favorite Things (like kibble). I also added The Tribe, Voracious, Harvest and Protocols to the Before Days collection. For a one-shot science fiction contest, I entered Biases.

Also, I had Theorizing beta read and submitted it to the Delphic Expanse to see how it would do there.

In addition, I started to post The All-Stars on Ad Astra to see if I could get some help with some plot issues I was having. Plus I also posted the teaser copy for Multiverse Mini.

Milestones

Everybody Knows this is Nowhere, A Long, Long Time Ago and The Three of Us all made it to over 10,000 reads on just one URL. Together made it to 20,000 reads on just one URL.

At this point, there are 11 stories with at least 10,000 reads on one URL, and three more (Reflections Down a CorridorTake Back the Nightand The Point is Probably Moot) have over 10,000 reads on combined URL read counts). Three of those are at 20,000 reads or more, plus two (Intolerance and Fortune) have over 20,000 reads on combined URLs. Reversal now has over 40,000 reads on combined URLs. See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

The Barnstorming series got some editing, particularly the first story. I also worked on the next Multiverse adventure, calling it Multiverse Mini.

Prep Work

I finished splitting up The Three of Us for eventual posting on Fanfiction.net. I contributed to the Star Trek Expanded Universes wiki as I get some traffic from there. Also, I performed a ton of SEO work on the blog and the site, too.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

I continued with school work at Quinnipiac. I was also looking for work rather intently. As stated above, the heat also affected my productivity. Sometimes it was just not easy to get comfortable.

Progress Report – June 2014

Progress Report – June 2014

June 2014 was busy.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | June 2014 This was another productive month and I wrote a ton of Star Trek fanfiction! It started with adding Legends, Seven Women to In Between Days context. For the Steal All the Toys challenge, I wrote a story in funngunner’s universe, called Hub of the Universe, and one in FalseBill’s universe, called Bomb(e).

Extras

In  addition, in response to a prompt about the natural world, I returned to the Multiverse II universe with a sequel featuring Rita Spinelli, Sky (Speranza Memoria) Spinelli, and Donald Janeway, called Oh My Darling. In addition, I added a fundraiser story ($5/drabble) called New Toy, which is set in the HG Wells universe. FalseBill added a Daranaean story, called Third Worth More than First. For the daily prompt challenge, I followed Declan Reed’s spiritual journey, with Faith. Plus I posted the Daranaean novel, Flight of the Bluebird. FalseBill added another letter to the epistolary work we’re writing together, Dear Naurr, Dear Lili, which takes place in the period between Reversal and Intolerance. Together, he and I collaborated and created Dishing it Out.

More Extras

Also, I finished posting Reflections Down a Corridor on Fanfiction.net and began to spin out Entanglements. Reflections had the most reads and the most reviews (and the most follows, so people were truly engaged) of anything I had ever posted on that site, so I made sure to tell my readers that the next story was Entanglements in order to try to get as many as possible of them to read the sequel as well. So far, that has been paying off, and the new story is averaging about 92 reads per chapter. The first one averaged just over 179 reads per chapter, so Entanglements is still ramping up, I believe.

On Wattpad, I continued to post the Social Media Guide. I added The High Cost of Dissidence, Detroit Rock City, Gainful to the Before Days collection. On a lark, I added a little contest story called My Favorite Things (like kibble). I also added A Perfect Note to the Future Matches collection.

In addition, on G and T Show forums, I finished posting Take Back the Night. I posted Some Assembly Required, Temptation, and Debate. I started posting Flight of the Bluebird.

Finally, on the TrekBBS, I answered their Other Universes challenge with the Quantum Leap crossover story, Theorizing.

Milestones

Revved Up exceeded 20,000 reads. The Social Media Guide received over 200 reviews for only a little over 1,000 reads. See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I did some work on the wholly original story, The Obolonk Murders.

Prep Work

I split up Entanglements into chapters for posting on Fanfiction.net.  Also, I did a small amount of work on the Star Trek Wiki. In addition, I worked on SEO a lot.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

So as ever, school work at Quinnipiac took a lot of my time. I also spent a great deal of time correcting and perfecting the SEO on my professional social media blog.

Progress Report – May 2014

Progress Report – May 2014

May 2014 was another busy month!

Posted Works

I posted Conversations With Heroes, and began posting The Social Media Guide on Wattpad. Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | May 2014 I added The Cure is Worse Than the Disease, and started spinning out Take Back the Night, on the G & T Show Forums.

In addition, I continued posting Reflections Down a Corridor on Fanfiction.net. I added to the Before Days collection of prequel stories on Wattpad. More specifically, I added The High Cost of Dissidence, Gossip Gossip and The Mess. On Ad Astra, I added The Decision to a Weekly Free Write about Aging. The Twelve Trials of Triskelion started, and I posted Seven Women for the Ficlet Flashdance challenge.

Also, I added A Perfect Note; Dear Naurr, Dear Lili; Gilded Cage; and Gossip Gossip to In Between Days context.

Milestones

Revved Up hit 17,000 reads on Wattpad!

I was equally thrilled to see combined reads for Take Back the Night top 10,000!

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked a bit on The Obolonk Murders but my final project plus all of the other work I wanted to do often made that wholly original story take a back seat.

Prep Work

I spent more time optimizing the blog and the jespah website. The website is now considerably cleaner and more streamlined, although it could use some design work and I really should better optimize it for mobile usage. I added several pages to the Star Trek Expanded Universes wiki as I have gotten some traffic from there and hope to get more.

I also created a Google+ page for Star Trek fanfiction in order to see how much that could potentially help me with not only readers, but also SEO.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

My final project for Quinnipiac class ICM522 was due the first week of this time period, so I was busy getting that together and handing it in. I got a 96 on it!!

Then I had about two weeks and change before the next semester started, but I was also visiting my parents and so was offline more than usual.

ICM524 started on May the 19th and I got into the thick of writing essays and creating videos almost immediately.

Furthermore, I spent time optimizing and updating my social media blog. I created a Google+ page for my social media work as well.

Progress Report – April 2014

Progress Report – April 2014

April 2014 saw a lot of expansion.

Posted Works

First of all, on Wattpad, I began to introduce that readership to In Between Days, and posted a set of prequels I called Before Days. I added Concord and then began to post Conversations With Heroes.Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | April 2014

On the G & T Show Forums, I finished posting Intolerance. I then posted The Cure is Worse Than the Disease.

In addition, on Fanfiction.net, I posted Confidence and then hit the E2 time period and began to post Reflections Down a Corridor. I imported Confidence to Fictionpad.

Plus I added Coffee as a drabble, to Ad Astra. In response to my own prompt about innocence, I posted a story about Skrol and Tr’Dorna, Losin’ It.

Milestones

Revved Up made it to over 14,700 reads! With over 165 comments, it is now my most-reviewed story, everShake Your Body, Reflections Down a Corridor and Crackerjack all exceeded 5,000 reads on one URL. A Long, Long Time Ago exceeded 10,000 combined reads. Intolerance exceeded 20,000 combined reads!

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I wrote some more of The Obolonk Murders, a wholly original story, and transcribed quite a bit of it into Word.

Prep Work

I finished optimizing all of the posts and pages of this blog. This was somewhat slow going as there are a lot of posts! I was also rewriting, interlinking more, updating images, retagging, and otherwise improving the older posts as much as possible.

Also, I improved the look of the site, trying new things, adding images, changing keywords, and otherwise attempting to optimize it.

I have started to move the as-yet unreleased posts to HootSuite rather than SocialOomph as there are more tracking options on the former.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Once again, I had a ton of school work at Quinnipiac University.

The semester was winding down and so my class partner and I spent time on our final project as it was about 30% of our final grades.

Progress Report – March 2014

Progress Report – March 2014

March 2014 was rather productive.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | March 2014

First of all, I finished posting Hold Your Dominion on Wattpad, and added Wider than the Sargasso Sea and Smash Your Dominion. I also added Coffee, It’s a Small Universe After All and Siberians.

In addition, I finished posting Flight of the Bluebird on Fanfiction.net. So as a direct result of that, I also imported Flight of the Bluebird into Fictionpad. I posted Legends on Fanfiction.net and also imported Legends into Fictionpad.

Also, I went on posting Intolerance on the G & T Show forums.

Furthermore, in response to a prompt about “Before the dying of the light”, I posted A Perfect Note on Ad Astra. I then added that same story to Fanfiction.net and Fictionpad. And finally, in response to a Weekly Free Write about being trapped, I added Gilded Cage.

Milestones

Progress Report – March 2014

Revved Up has been featured on Wattpad since the 12th!!! And it has over 120 reviews and is racking up about 750 reads/day.

He Stays  a Stranger made it to 10,000 reads on Ad Astra alone!

So please see the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked on The Obolonk Murders, a wholly original story.

Prep Work

Also, I spent time on BookType, getting together some content for TU Publishing. In addition, I added a little to the Star Trek Expanded Universes wiki. Finally, I split up Entanglements into chapters for eventual posting on Fanfiction.net.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School!

The week of March 10 – 16 was spring break at Quinnipiac, but otherwise I was working. Spring break was more than welcome.  I did a lot of the readings and was busy with a blog for class.

I also spent a lot of time updating my website and older posts on this blog, and attempting to improve their SEO.
