Progress Report – August 2017

August 2017 was another slow month. Heat, plus an incredibly busy month working as a freelancer, meant I did little but work and sweat! At least, that was how I saw it.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | August 2017
First of all, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing, as the spam situation is still up in the air.

And on Fanfiction.net, I posted He Stays a Stranger. Because the HG Wells series is winding down there, I will add the Deep Future stories and then, most likely, whatever I have from Barnstorming, even without a lot of editing. Otherwise, there is not much left to go there.

Finally, on Wattpad, I started to post The Point is Probably Moot.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Right now, the only WIP is for original work. I have works going into two (maybe it’s three?) separate anthologies. Because they are at various stages of completion, and some of them have been going on for quite a while, I am not 100% certain which is which! For a cancer anthology, I wrote something new, called The Playback.

The Hub of the Universe trilogy is going very slowly. Some of that is a fleeting and fickle muse. However, it is also a direct result of my being so damn busy. I often add a line or two in writing and then fall asleep. No lie!

Prep Work

I started to create draft on Wattpad for the next story in the series, Shake Your Body.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Work and work and more work! I was incredibly busy, which had its start back in I believe May. While it is good to have my freelance writing business taking off, it leaves very little room or time for anything else. I desperately seek balance. If anyone sees it, please return it. Thank you.

Progress Report – July 2017

Progress Report – July 2017

July 2017 turned out as yet another quiet month for Star Trek fanfiction writing.

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill | July 2017
First of all, on the G & T Show forums, I posted nothing. Because at that site, the forums were removed a few months ago, due to the influx of spammers. And at this moment in time, the replacement blogs have not yet been created or started. Hence, still nada!

However, at this time, I still have no replacement, and neither do they. Therefore, I posted very few stories and, as a result, the read counts did not advance too much.

And on Fanfiction.net, during July 2017, I I finished posting Shake Your Body. I then started He Stays a Stranger.

Finally, on Wattpad, I continued to post Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Because I finished and won NaNoWriMo in 2016, I sent The Real Hub of the Universe out for more beta reading. And that has proven more difficult as usual, as people are just plain busy. Furthermore, this wholly original science fiction work takes place in Victorian Boston. However, I would like to put off completing the second book until I get at least a modicum of feedback on the first one, and that has proven elusive.

Also, the editing for The Enigman Cave finished and the book was queried in mid-May. The publisher, Riverdale Avenue Books, asked for the entire manuscript for reading and reviewing. Hence I am cautiously optimistic; there are no guarantees of publication.

I also worked on the sequel to The Real Hub of the Universe, called The Real Heart of the Universe. I had already written over 50,000 words by the end of June. Hence I am perhaps one-half to maybe even two-thirds done.

Prep Work

I edited a Wattpad draft for the following fanfiction piece from The Times of the HG Wells, The Point is Probably Moot. However, I do not have to post it just yet.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

The month was hot and I was also incredibly busy with my freelance writing business. While it is good to have money and to work, I do kind of miss writing fiction.

We had a horrible tragedy in my family, so that derailed me and pretty much everyone else. However, I cope with art, so I will write something. It will be unrelated to anything else and might only be available to a few people.

I also worked on the sequel to The Real Hub of the Universe, called The Real Heart of the Universe. I had already written over 37,000 words in April. Hence I am perhaps one-third to one-half to maybe even two-thirds done.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

As always, sometimes the muse just takes a vacation. And I did, too, as we went to Cape Cod to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Furthermore, I wanted to take something of a break. The Real Hub needs editing and beta reading. Hence that means I need to take any changes into consideration before I can finish the sequel and begin to outline the third book in that series. In addition, I must get psyched up to query The Enigman Cave as it is ready. I just need to pull the trigger.

And on Fanfiction.net, during April 2017, I finished posting The Point is Probably Moot. And then I started Shake Your Body. Because I had finished a book, I decided to update Fictionpad. As a result, I added A Long, Long Time Ago; Ohio; You Mixed-Up Siciliano; Spring Thaw; Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain; and The Point is Probably Moot to that site. While I receive nearly no read counts from that site, they still seem better than nothing.

Finally, on Wattpad, I finished You Mixed-Up Siciliano and added Souvenirs. Also, I started to post the next fanfiction piece from The Times of the HG Wells. And that turned out to be Spring Thaw.

Furthermore, this wholly original science fiction work takes place in Victorian Boston. However, I would like to put off writing the second book until I get at least a modicum of feedback on the first one, and that has proven elusive.

Also, the editing for The Enigman Cave is finished and it is ready for querying. However, it has proven hard to get psyched up to do that. It can sometimes be difficult to be able to mentally handle what can often be a lot of rejection.

I also wrote a short story (which currently has no place for posting) called The Escape Violinist. And I have a pretty well-formed idea for another one which will probably end up the length of a novella.

Prep Work

I next created a Wattpad draft for the following fanfiction piece from The Times of the HG Wells. And that turned out to be Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain.

In addition, I must get psyched up to query The Enigman Cave as it is ready and all I just need to pull the trigger.

Progress Report – November 2016

Progress Report – November 2016

Posted Works

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | QuillSo this was yet another month where I just did not have enough time or energy to post anything new. Hence, all of the works posted are older ones.

First of all, on the G & T Show forums, I started to post Temper.

And on Fanfiction.net, I continued to post Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain. Because the stories there are getting even fewer reads and reviews, I am debating about continuing. However, I suspect this is a problem inherent in the Times of the HG Wells series, in that, if you know Daniels, you ‘get’ the stories. Yet if you don’t, then the stories fall flat.

Finally, on Wattpad, I continued to post A Long, Long Time Ago.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

November means NaNoWriMo and so I am finally getting to write The Real Hub of the Universe! I am enjoying it a great deal although I have little time these days. Hence sometimes that kind of stress turns into writer’s block.

Prep Work

I really need to go back to preparing for the next stories to be posted. And this includes, in particular, setting up more of the HG Wells series for Wattpad.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Oh my gosh, you name it.

In late October, at the G & T Show, we held our second annual ’24 Hours of G & T’ marathon. And it really wiped me out at the end – so much so that I had trouble with wakefulness for nearly the entire following week. In addition, I volunteered to be the one to get the blog posts out (yes, that was not a smart move on my part) as others were handling YouTube and distributing the prizes. Eighteen blog posts later, I still had to take care of NaNoWriMo.

And that was not all of it. The Axanar case also heated up with a number of lengthy documents, and I needed to blog about them for Semantic Shenanigans. Furthermore, this is the height of the season for the wedding blog, as more people get engaged in the last three or so months in the year than at any other time except for Valentines’ Day.

Progress Report – October 2016

Progress Report – October 2016

As has been happening for several months (has it been a year already? More? I honestly can’t recall), I did not write too much in the way of Star Trek fan fiction. Rather, I spent October 2016 posting older stories and preparing for this year’s NaNoWriMo.

Posted Works

First of all, on Wattpad, I continued adding to Clockworks, and posted Marvels, Pat the Bunny, Where O Where, Candy, and A Lesson. And then I started to post A Long, Long Time Ago.

Furthermore, on Fanfiction.net, I continued to post Where the Wind Comes Sweepin’ Down the Plain.

In addition, on the G & T Show forums, I posted Shell Shock. And then I added The Conspiracy and Gilded Cage to In Between Days.

Barking up the Muse Tree | Janet Gershen-Siegel | jespah | Quill

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts. Reversal made it to over 100,000 reads, and Together hit over 50,000!

WIP Corner

Currently, the only real WIP is The Enigman Cave. I sent it to Roberta for editing early this month and we agreed she would return it around the holidays or so.

Prep Work

I worked on The Real Hub of the Universe! It was a matter of creating greater connections between characters. Furthermore, I tried to eliminate coincidences and pull the plot into more believable directions. And I was able to add it to the NaNoWriMo site very early, so it was good to be done with that. As a result, I feel ready to tackle it this year. More or less.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Part of it was podcasting, as we finally launched Semantic Shenanigans. In addition, I was undergoing physical rehabilitation for both my knee and my back and hip. Not fun! However, all of this was very necessary.
