Progress Report – March 2016

March 2016 proved to be another quiet month as school, work, and the G & T Show podcast took up a lot of my time. There was no new fan fiction created during this calendar month. However, a lot of my older works were distributed to wider and wider audiences. I am grateful for the recognition I have been getting for some of these pieces.

Posted Works

March 2016On Wattpad, I continued to add to Later Days, and therefore I posted Some Assembly Required; The Facts; Linfep Linfep Linfep; Consider the Lilies of the Field; In Memory of Kelsey Haber; If I Could See; Colleagues; The Pivot Point; About Nine Months; Debateand Half.

On Fanfiction.net, I continued to post Ohio.

On the G & T Show forums, I finished posting Reversal. I then started  with a new compilation, In Between Days, and added An Announcement, Dear Captain, Apple, and Local Flavor.

Milestones

WIP Corner

I worked even more closely with beta readers on The Enigman Cave, getting it more polished and ready for querying.

Prep Work

I continued to work on the upcoming 2016 NaNoWriMo wholly original story, The Real Hub of the Universe, getting to know my main characters better and fleshing out the secondary characters a lot more.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Work, school, the podcast, family stuff, you name it! I was busy or tired for much of the time, and often both.

Progress Report – February 2016

February 2016 was busy!

February 2016 Posted Works

February 2016 proved to be another busy month. Progress Report – February 2016As I continued with schoolwork, I was able to add to more works online but really did not write any new Star Trek fanfiction as I just did not have the time to do so. Helpfully (and through no design of my own), everything I posted was a continuation of a work in progress.

On Wattpad, I finished posting Take Back the Night. I also posted Temptation.

On Fanfiction.net, I continued to post Ohio.  On the G & T Show forums, I kept on posting Reversal.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I worked with beta readers on The Enigman Cave. I am still aiming for a round of querying right around the time I graduate from Quinnipiac University, in late August/early September. So far, it is going rather well, and I am very pleased with the feedback I am getting. My only issue is version control, and so I will most likely use Google Docs the next time I work with so many beta readers. Otherwise, it is far too confusing for me and I can miss subtleties if I am not careful.

Prep Work

I continued working and daydreaming and trying to bring some shape, focus, and above all plot to what is being tentatively called The Real Hub of the Universe. It has the potential to turn into a series and not just be for this year’s NaNoWriMo exercise, so I am eager to work on world building.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School, more than anything else. I am busy, and I am focused. Plus I need to get ready for my capstone project over the summer. I am having fun but it is also time-consuming work.

Progress Report – January 2016

January 2016 Posted Works

January 2016 kept catching up to me.Progress Report – January 2016 I started another year where, I hope, to not be quite so burned out as I was at the end of last year. School, work, and writing were all really beginning to catch up with me.

On Wattpad, I continued adding to the anthology, Later Days. As a result, On the Radio, We Meet Again, The Play at the Plate, Legends, All You Need is Love, The Best Things Come in Pairs, and Complications were added. I also added Saturn Rise separately.

On Fanfiction.net, I finished A Long, Long Time Ago and I then started to post Ohio.

On the G & T Show forums, I kept adding to Reversal.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I continued to work on perfecting the story of the Enigmans and also a new idea, a very tentative idea about aliens in nineteenth century Boston. That one already has a short wiki as I am beginning to do the necessary background research. It may eventually become my NaNoWriMo project for this year. We shall see.

Prep Work

I worked on getting Ohio in shape for posting on Fanfiction.net. I worked with beta readers on The Enigman Cave. That story went through several revisions and I fully expect revisions will continue for much of the early part of this year.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

January 2016 signaled some changes. The start of the semester and the return to work made for busy times for me, as did work for the G & T Show. This is my last full two-course semester. I’ll graduate in May but I will still need to complete my capstone project over the summer.

Progress Report – December 2015

December 2015 Posted Works

Progress Report – December 2015December 2105 was a fairly quiet month as I was loaded up with schoolwork and it was burning me out something fierce.

On Wattpad, I finished posting Fortune. I posted Day of the Dead. Because longer stories with short vignettes work better there, I created Later Days. This included The Truth About Doug (from Eight) and To Wish, To Want, To Desire.

On the G & T Show forums, I continued to post Reversal.

On Fanfiction.net, I continued posting A Long, Long Time Ago.

On Fictionpad, Clockworks was imported, so the following stories ended up on that site: A Lesson; Briefing; Candy; Desperation; Marvels; Pat the Bunny; Preparations; Recruitment; The Honky Tonk Angel; and Where O Where.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

In December 2015, I continued to work on The Enigman Cave. I ended up with over 118,000 words and the story was sent to three beta readers before the holidays  began.

Prep Work

My main task was to work on the Enigmans and get that book in shape for beta readers. This included eliminating a lot of the extra words which I had added at the beginning of NaNoWriMo in order to make the word count requirement. I also attempted to tighten up the prose.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Final papers! It seemed as if everyone wanted me to write one. I have also been working for a second blog, so that takes up some writing time. I spent a lot more time in front of a screen than usual, and it took a toll on my creativity and sometimes on my patience. I was very glad to finish the semester so I could relax a bit. The end is in sight at Quinnipiac, and that is very encouraging.

Progress Report – November 2015

It was a month for continuations, and not really for starting anything new. On Wattpad, I continued posting Fortune. On Fanfiction.net, I continued to post A Long, Long Time Ago. On the G & T Show forums, I continued to post Reversal.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

Main work was done on wholly original fiction as Star Trek fanfiction took a back seat to NaNoWriMo.

Prep Work

The month began with the end of the 24 Hours of G & T and I got a chance to talk writing! It was great fun and will be on YouTube soon.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

NaNoWriMo!

Which technically isn’t a productivity killer at all; it’s more that I was productive, but it sure as heck wasn’t for fanfiction. Instead, I worked on an original science fiction book, The Enigman Cave. I ‘won’ NaNoWriMo on the 20th by making it to 50,000 words and then continued as the story was only maybe one-half to two-thirds completed by then. This cushion will come in very handy at editing time.

Furthermore, I had schoolwork as I was looking to get as much accomplished as possible in preparation for the end of the year. I am already set to take some time off from my internship. It’s enough already. I am pretty burned out.

On Wattpad, I began to post Fortune.

On the G & T Show forums, I posted Letters from Home, Throwing Rocks at Looking Glass Houses, Paving Stones Made  From Good Intentions, Bribery, The Light,  First Born,  and Waiting. I then started to post Reversal.

On Fictionpad, I posted the Clockworks collection, consisting of:
A Lesson; Briefing; Candy; Desperation; Marvels; Pat the Bunny; Preparations; Recruitment; The Honky Tonk Angel; and Where O Where. I also imported Faith, Seven Women, The Decision, and The Stranger.

WIP Corner

The Barnstorming series is mainly on hold as I work out NaNo and do schoolwork.

Prep Work

As the month wound down, I got caught up in getting reading for this year’s NaNoWriMo. This meant more work on The Enigman Cave, including naming many of the characters and the ships in that fleet.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

Schoolwork and travel! My cousin got married in the middle of the month and that changed my routine. We also put together the 24 Hours of G & T and that kept me busy.

Progress Report – September 2015 Barking Up the Muse TreeThis month, as the new semester started, I was not able to get a lot of straightforward writing in, as I was also working at an internship.

I decided that the method of posting one longer ‘story’ which is really an anthology of sorts for short works, was the way to go on Fanfiction.net. Most of the single chapter works there do not do so well, whereas multi-chapter works get a good number of read counts and reviews.  Therefore, for the HG Wells stories, the plan is to put prequels up, in an anthology called Clockworks, then post the books, and then post the post-Stranger books as another anthology, called Deep Future.

Clockworks now includes Desperation, Recruitment, The Honky Tonk Angel, Briefing, Preparations, Marvels, Pat the Bunny, Where O Where, and Candy.

On Wattpad, I finished posting Temper and added Coveted Commodity to In Between Days.

On the G & T Show forums, I posted The Puzzle and added More, More, More! to Before Days.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I spent a small amount of time on the Barnstorming story, Overtime, but it was my lowest priority during the month.

Prep Work

I spent more time working on outlining this year’s NaNoWriMo project, The Enigman Cave. I worked out many of the names and logistics (ship size, etc.) so that I would not have to figure those out during NaNoWriMo.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School! I was hammered with papers and reports, and it doesn’t seem as if it will let up any time soon.

WIP Corner

I continued to work on the last book of the Barnstorming series, Overtime. I created and began to populate a Wiki for this year’s NaNoWriMo story, The Enigman Cave (a lot of that work consisted of getting together character names and figuring out the departments and chain of command on the ship).

Prep Work

I put together separate chapters in A Long, Long Time Ago for posting on Fanfiction.net.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

During the first week, I had final projects due for school (the following semester does not start until August the 31st). I started as an Ambassador for Wattpad.

I finished the first draft of the Barnstorming book, Time Out, and began the final book in that series, Overtime.

Prep Work

I spent time on Wattpad getting future postings together in draft form.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

I had plenty to do at school. Plus I became a Wattpad Ambassador, and that took up a lot of my time.

Progress Report – June 2015
On G & T Show forums, I finished posting Concord and then returned to Before Days with Voracious, Harvest, Before the Fall, and then Protocols, and then began to post Theorizing.

On Fanfiction.net, I finished posting Theorizing and then added Gratitude, Red, Linfep Linfep Linfep, Colleagues, If I Could See, and then began to post About Nine Months.

On Fictionpad, I posted Theorizing, Gratitude, Red, Linfep Linfep Linfep, Colleagues, and If I Could See.

On Wattpad, I finished posting Together and then posted Where No Gerbil Has Gone Before, which was also entered into this year’s Watty Awards, with a new cover. In the In Between Days collection, I added Equilibrium, Movie Night, The Cure is Worse Than the Disease, and Ceremonial.

On Ad Astra, I posted a drabble taking place in Captain Sarine’s universe, Appearances. Sharp-eyed readers will see Pete Porter, a relative of Polly and the Barnstorming character Tamsin. The story was too short to be considered for the voting in the ‘Steal All the Toys’ challenge. I also worked with kes7 to advance our Tesseract/Times of the HG Wells crossover, Paradox, in the Collaboration Station challenge. I began to post the 7-day challenge and went with an IDIC theme, Infinite Diversity.

Milestones

See the Stats page for individual read and review counts.

WIP Corner

I continued perfecting the last two books in the Obolonk trilogy. I also worked on the Barnstorming-Times of the HG Wells crossover story, Time Out.

Prep Work

In anticipation of NaNoWriMo 2015, I began to really think about the shape of this year’s story, which takes place in a new universe (although some of the tech is related to the Obolonks) and is tentatively called The Enigman Cave.

This Month’s Productivity Killers

School, and the ever-present search or work both kept me from being as productive as I would have liked. I also trained to become an Ambassador on Wattpad.
